Orchestral Arrangement of "Esta Tarde Vi Llover"

Film Story

It was a joy and an honor to create the string arrangement for Esta Tarde Vi Llover for Gabriel Espinosa. This beloved composition by Mexican songwriter Armando Manzanero is one of the most poignant and timeless songs in Latin American music. It’s a gentle meditation on love, longing, and the fleeting nature of human connection. The beauty lies in its understated poetry and elegant harmonic simplicity, inviting both subtlety and emotional depth in its interpretation.

Gabriel’s rendition, recorded with the stellar ensemble of Misha Tsiganov on piano, Mauricio Zottarelli on drums, Joe Martin on bass, and Hendrik Meurkens on harmonica, brings an intimate and deeply lyrical approach to the piece. Each musician contributes a distinct voice, rooted in jazz yet infused with the warmth and soul of Latin tradition.

Crafting the string arrangement was a deeply fulfilling process. The goal was to enhance the expressive depth of the performance without overpowering the delicate interplay between the rhythm section and Hendrik’s evocative harmonica lines. The strings were designed to gently support the emotional arc of the piece, sometimes weaving in counterpoint around the melody and at other times offering soft harmonic cushions to enrich the textures.

Esta Tarde Vi Llover continues to resonate across generations. Contributing to this interpretation, alongside musicians of such sensitivity and musicality, was truly a highlight.
